US Navy fit Wynn Wipers to their Mobile Landing Platforms....
On May 16th 3012 the US Navy took delivery of their new MLP1 vessel fitted with Wynn Wipers manufactured by B Hepworth & Co Ltd in the UK.
The Navy accepted delivery of the first Mobile Landing Platform, USNS Montford Point (MLP 1), from shipbuilder General Dynamics-NASSCO, May 14, in San Diego, California.
The Navy says the Mobile Landing Platform is a "new class of ship and highly flexible platform" that will provide capability for large-scale logistics movements such as the transfer of light and heavy vehicles and equipment from sea to shore. Be that as it may, the basic design of the the ship is that of a semi-submersible heavy-lift vessel, with lot of logistic support capabilities layered on top.
MLP-1 is a modular, adaptable platform that may be used across a broad range of military operations supporting multiple operational phases. Acting as a mobile seabase, MLP will be part of the critical access infrastructure that supports the deployment of forces and supplies to provide prepositioned equipment and supplies with flexible distribution.
The 83,000 ton, 785-foot ship will leverage float-on/float-off technology, allowing Montford Point to partially submerge, facilitating easy movement of cargo and craft. Additionally, the ship's size allows for 25,000 square feet of vehicle and equipment stowage space and 380,000 gallons of JP-5 fuel storage.
The picture shows the the first of two hulls that have been fitted with the Wynn wiper systems, and there is a third vessel in the pipeline to be built that has been awarded to the shipyard too.

Hepworth wipers gain Russian GOST-R approval!
Hepworth Rail is the first western wiper manufacturer to become Mandatory GOST-R Approved.
Practically all goods exported to Russia are subject to some form of GOST certification. GOST-R is a system of Russian national technical and quality standards that encompass the rail industry and its critical products such a wiper systems. As in any other country, certification is required to protect the health and safety of Russia's population by excluding potentially hazardous or unsafe products from entering Russia’s Rail Industry.
Hepworth Rail’s GOST-R Certificate of Conformity contains a range of wiper formation products that all carry the same tariff code (HTS). The registered GOST-R Sign/Mark of Conformity will be affixed to certified products and documentation, demonstrating their GOST-certified status.
There are two types of GOST-R certificates: Mandatory (yellow-coloured) and Voluntary (blue-coloured). Hepworth’s recent success in attaining a Mandatory GOST-R for their wiper systems is further evidence of Hepworth Rail’s commitment to supply high quality and safe product into the global rail market and facilitates a significant opportunity to enter this very important market.
Hepworth Rail has achieved this remarkable award after a successful partnership and working closely with the Russian authorities to ensure that they met the exacting requirements through each phase of the process. Hepworth has now been rewarded as the first wiper manufacturer outside Russia to be awarded the GOST–R certification, for direct and indirect supply of their bespoke, high quality rail wiper systems.

Specialist fabrications for art exhibit installed!

Hepworth Fabrications recently manufactured plinths for two quirky sculptures which have been added to a Derbyshire town's shopping area to help bring in more visitors.
Hepworth's client, CMA Moldform Ltd had been commissioned to produce and install various pieces of public art in Chesterfield, as part of a European Arts Funded project. 'Sleeping Puppy' and a 'Falcon' were installed on 30th September 2012 within the city centre, in the old part of the town.

The Sleeping Puppy - based upon a baby labrador, is installed upon a gold plinth and weighs approximately 750 kilos. Manufactured from Crystal Clear resin, it is 2m x 1.2m x 1m high and is lit with LEDs from underneath to produce a gentle glow. Hepworth had to custom manufacture the plinth using a steel structure, not only to take the huge weight of the casting, but also incorporating a channel for the LED lights, plus a security door at either end for ease of installation and future maintenance.

The Falcon is one and a half times life size, made from pewter and it sits upon a frosted Crystal Clear resin rock, which is underlit to give the Falcon a most dramatic appearance. The Falcon is encased in a 200 kilo Bell Jar, manufactured from Crystal Clear resin, which is mounted upon a gold circular plinth. This plinth was also manufactured using a steel structure, and incorporated a security door for access to the spotlight, plus a mosquito net inside to stop any insects from gaining access to the dome.

Commissioned by Lead Consultant Geoff Wood for Chesterfield Borough Council, the Puppy can be found near Theatre Yard, which was once known as The Kennels, and the Falcon has been installed in Falcon Yard.

An Interview with Jonathan Eddy, CEO of B Hepworth & Co Ltd.
This interview was part of a submission with reference to funding received, supported by HSBC.
B Hepworth & Co Ltd were ranked 26th in the first annual International Track 100 league table supplement, published in The Sunday Times on 11 July 2010, with title sponsor HSBC. The league table ranks companies’ international sales growth over the last 2 years.
Hepworth are currently waiting to see if they are selected as a winner again in 2012.
What are your principle activities?
"B Hepworth & Co is a family business formed in 1868. We design and manufacture windscreen wiping systems and washing & electrical controls units and fabricate products for the marine, rail and commercial vehicle industries.
We have a worldwide network of over 20 distributors and export to over 50 countries each year. This extensive distribution service ensures that we can retain our status as the premier providers of windscreen wiping systems."
Key products and services offered by your business?
Rail:
"We are the leading supplier of bespoke wiper equipment, having over seventy years of experience specialising in the design and manufacture of heavy duty windscreen wiper systems.
With the need for clear visibility an essential safety consideration, names such as Alstom Transport Limited, London Underground, Bombardier and Siemens know they can rely on our expertise in the design and manufacture of wiper systems to meet their specific and individual needs.
Hepworth Rail International, part of the B. Hepworth & Co. Ltd Group has succeeded in becoming the first UK owned company awarded International Railway Industry Standard (IRIS) Certification by LRQA.
We also have contracts with London Underground to supply doors and seats for trains. This has been achieved through our connections to Bombardier who recommended us as their preferred partner."
Marine:
"Whether a craft is in its early stages on the drawing board, or refitting, our team of design engineers will help to achieve considerable savings in installation costs and greatly improve window clearing efficiency.
We maintain our own water test rig, on which newly developed products are tested. During manufacture, products are taken at random from the production line and are subjected to a gruelling 3000 hour non-stop test cycle. This is the equivalent to over 18 million wipes, or 125 days and nights’ continuous use. This procedure helps to ensure that the highest quality product, in terms of design, innovation and manufacturing excellence, leaves our factory."
What markets does your business operate in?
"We are currently operating in the marine, rail and commercial vehicles industries.
Our major markets include China, USA, Singapore, Australia, all European countries, Brazil and India. However, we have recently been in discussions with Kazakhstan where we have the opportunity to produce heavy duty windscreen wiping systems for locomotive trains.
With Astana (Kazakhstan) being the second coldest capital city in the world, temperatures in winter often exceed -40 degrees Celsius and summer temperatures typically reach 25 degrees Celsius. We have to ensure that our wiping systems are rigorously tested to ensure that they can withstand all types of inclement weather.
Additionally, as we export to over 50 countries, many of the locomotive engines we install our wiping systems on are of different specification. We are proud to say that our bespoke wiping systems are designed in such as way that we are able to offer this tailored solution to suit all of our clients............."

Success Story - Puls-R reverses degradation in batteries for Coastguard Watch Station!
Puls-R 12V units were fitted to two banks of batteries at the NCI station at Froward Point in March 2012. These batteries have been scrupulously tested over the last few months showing amazing results.
Phil White, who looks
after the customer's
Electrical Systems, and who has an HNC plus 45 years experience in Electrical
Engineering, was so pleased with the performance of his Puls-R 12V units that
he sent us an email and lots of images to show the installation etc. Below is an excerpt from the email:
“Since March, Lee Harris from Darthaven Marina, (Puls-R Distributor for the South-West), has been testing our batteries every month and they have shown a constant improvement in the CCA rating.
As we can only charge our batteries while they are under load, this is more like a back-up situation than a normal starter battery situation. Our original set of station batteries lasted about 4 years under this routine before they needed replacing, which would suggest a monthly degradation of about 1,5%/ month. A second set installed for the weblink were not properly monitored, (the station batteries were), and were allowed to become fully discharged and never fully recharged. They only lasted 18 months, suggesting a monthly degradation of over 4.5%/month.
Last October I installed better monitoring for the weblink system and improved the charging facilities for both banks of batteries, as well as replacing the dud weblink batteries. Since then, both banks have been properly monitored and kept properly charged up, with neither bank showing less than 55% on the monitors.
The initial rate of degradation on both banks of batteries would appear to have been about 1.5%/month, before the PULS-R units were installed. Since then the degradation appears to have been reversed with up to 5% improvement in CCA at times on the weblink batteries, which were newer. This would suggest we may get 6 years or more lifetime out of our weblink batteries and about 5 years out of the older station batteries.
If this should be the case, we will have recovered the cost of the PULS-R units in one year's extra lifetime from the station batteries. Most satisfying!
As we also have solar panels to back up the station generator, any reduction in charging times is also beneficial as our diesel costs are £3,000/year. This also seems to have happened as the solar panels are coping well, despite the typical Devon Summer! :-)” Phil White, Senior Watch Keeper.
The National Coastwatch Institution (NCI) is
an entirely voluntary organisation keeping a visual watch along UK shores. Each station assists in the protection
and preservation of life at sea and around the UK coastline.
As with other NCI stations, Froward Point, which is located east of the mouth of the River Dart in Devon, is manned by unpaid volunteers who maintain a watch for emergencies at sea and are a contact point for emergencies on shore.
Watches are maintained visually, with radio and with radar. The station is totally dependent on the generosity of individuals, companies, and other organisations for funding. Over £30,000 was raised to get this station operational.
Can you help keep it running? If so, please see their website: http://www.nci-frowardpoint.org.uk/
Another way in which you can help is to become a member of NCI Shorewatch: http://www.nci.org.uk/

Hepworth v Bombardier Football Match
What a great time we had courtesy of Bombardier Derby on Saturday.
The whole day was a first class event and the quality of our football was superb - equal to that of our wipers! All seven of us (excluding No. 1 of course.....oh, except for the 30yrd screamer), played fantastically and showed our customer just what a great team we have at Hepworth. The lads were professional even under some quite aggressive BT pressure in the Quarter finals, playing some 'Barcelona type' football to ensure we didn’t lose during normal play.
Unfortunately we were knocked out by penalties in the quarter finals after some tough football with Colin & Alastair coming off with injuries, ending the game 2:2.
The top team:
No.1 Fat Old Rail Sales Bloke – Fell over a couple of times in goal and the ball fortunately struck him and played out for about 3 minutes, when AT came off moaning about a lost eye
No.2 Alastair ‘used to be great’ Timmis – Quality never leaves and AT’s 4 goals were all great finishes
No.3 Jack ‘Chinese Ronaldo’ Li – Solid the opposition could not get past Jack ’The Wall’ Li
No.5 Colin ‘Beckham’ Caswell – Smooth play maker, although we can comfortably state not a penalty taker
No.6 Ian ‘Cantona & Hart’ Lockett – Solid defender and outstanding penalty stopper
No.7 Warren ‘Messi’ McKeon – Dynamite midfielder who never stopped running
No.8 Ash ‘Real Quality’ Warrilow – Real quality was the right description and Player of the Tournament for us.
Overall the lads were equal to any team at this event and were outstanding. The games were all good quality and competitive with Pride Park, and the activities including presentation and buffet all exceptional. I would like to thank Ian’s family and Jack’s girlfriend for their support during the day and especially the lads for giving up their spare time to represent Hepworth at this event, doing exactly what we do best: ‘Showing The Way’ and proving to one of our biggest customers that we are definitely part of the team.
Well done lads and next year the cup is ours…..

Gallery Exhibit installed!
Hepworth were recently commissioned to produce and install a set of window wipers in Nottingham Contemporary gallery's main window as part of two exhibitions by Klaus Weber.
The exhibitions, entitled "If you leave me I'm not coming" and "Already there!" run from 22nd October to 8th January and entrance is free.
Exerpts taken from from the gallery website:
"Klaus Weber’s art works create ruptures with what we would call reality. In so doing they call our deepest belief systems into question. They provide an ironic counterpoint to the shared understanding – social, natural, scientific – that underpins our society. They also expose the maverick forces of nature that disrupt our own ability to control."
"Weber’s exhibition also questions the nature of art itself, as well as its place in an art gallery. Some of his works appear to have erupted from our building and are clearly visible from the streets outside. If you leave me I’m not coming, the work that gives the exhibition its title, turns our Weekday Cross window, our own window on the world, into a giant windscreen. Pouring rain obscures the view, while huge wipers work tirelessly to clear it."

China tests Beijing-Shanghai bullet train
Engineers have conducted a test-run of the Beijing-Shanghai high-speed rail link, days before its public launch.
Officials, reporters and company bosses were on board for the 300 km/h (190mph) train's maiden voyage, which the government has promised will halve the journey time to under five hours.
China is planning to roll out high-speed lines across the country.
He Huawu, the chief engineer of the Chinese Railway Ministry, said China was in a leading position in the industry worldwide.
"Countries that are currently building high-speed railway can draw on the experience of China, such as its standards, construction ability and integration methods," he said.
The public will be able to travel on the trains from Thursday, a day before the 90th anniversary of the Communist Party.

Hepworth features in HSBC Connections article: Why now is the right time to export
With continuing growth in developing economies and signs of an emergence of a global middle class, could now be the time for UK companies to move into overseas markets? Performance wiper systems manufacturer B Hepworth has taken the plunge and now delivers its products to 54 countries. Here's how they did it.
In July, The Sunday Times published the International Track 100 supplement, sponsored by HSBC, which ranked UK companies' international sales growth over the latest two years of available accounts.
B Hepworth, the Redditch-based marine and train windscreen-wiper manufacturer, ranked 26th in the table, having seen its international sales grow from £2.6 million in 2007 to £10 million in 2010 (thus making up 95 per cent of its total sales).
"Why the success? Partly because we've adopted an aggressive sales approach - you've got to go out and make it happen," explains B Hepworth's chief executive, Jonathan Eddy. "You've also got to have a fantastic product - and ours are world class.
"The impressive jump in sales has been achieved partly on the favourable currency fluctuations, admits Eddy. "Obviously, we're delighted with our increased profits, but we've been able to safeguard some 120 jobs at a time when many other UK businesses are making staff redundant," he points out..........

Fantastic Achievent!

B Hepworth & Co Ltd were ranked 26th in the first annual International Track 100 league table supplement, published in The Sunday Times on 11 July 2010, with title sponsor HSBC.
The league table ranked companies’ international sales growth over the last 2 years. The UK Midlands-based company manufactures windscreen wiper systems for trains and ships, such as the cruise liner QE2 and her latest sister ship, Queen Victoria, and Hepworth are very proud to have supplied over 1500 systems to Bombardier for the entire Electrostar fleet, and fit wiper systems to Delhi’s new fleet of 40 Metro trains, a bespoke order that required the British company’s specialised manufacturing skills. Export growth has been driven by the acquisition of its main British competitor in 2004, which enabled it to rationalise its product range and consolidate overseas distributors, thus simplifying its route to market. Hepworth manufactures in Britain and exports to 54 countries, including China and America; overseas sales have grown 96% a year, from £2.6m in 2007 to £10m in 2009, with Hepworth's ranking in the league table as 6th largest exporter to China.
Jonathan Eddy, CEO, stated "this is a fantastic achievement and I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone involved for their hard work and dedication. We have a great team of people here and we look forward to the next stage in our improvement plan to further enhance the growth of the business".

Fantastic achievement! Hepworth ranked No. 26 in Sunday Times International Track 100 League Table, and 6th largest exporter to China!
The first annual International Track 100 league table supplement was published in The Sunday Times on 11 July 2010, with title sponsor HSBC. The league table ranked companies’ international sales growth over the latest two years of available accounts. The table was based on limited publicly available data of international sales so there are likely to be omissions, but it provides a useful picture of growth in overseas trade by UK private companies.
Despite difficult trading conditions, the 100 companies’ international sales grew by an average of 83% a year over two years to a total of £2.2bn. International sales growth ranged from 44% pa to 416% pa.
They exported to more than 160 countries, with 48 firms generating sales in the US and 32 trading in China. Europe was the continent where most firms did business, with 68 companies reporting sales in this region, and 54 in Asia.
From aerospace and defence equipment to Simon Cowell’s X Factor, British merchandise and culture have spread to most corners of the globe. Businesses sold goods and services worth £231 billion to overseas buyers in the 12 months to March, according to government figures, making Britain the world’s tenth-largest exporter in a table topped by China, Germany and America. The figure is 5.3% down on the previous year, because of the global recession, yet the combination of a weak pound and stagnant demand at home is encouraging companies big and small to seek fresh markets abroad. Our new research shows that shrewd businesses are also responding to the opportunities created, particularly by high demand for oil and gas and the rapid economic growth across Asia. The inaugural Sunday Times HSBC International Track 100, which ranks private companies by foreign sales growth over their latest two financial years, reveals that British creativity, engineering and experience are still in demand all over the world. The league table, compiled by the Oxford-based research and networking events company Fast Track, highlights a host of privately owned firms that have succeeded abroad after tackling challenges ranging from currency fluctuations and language barriers to security risks.
The information published about B Hepworth within the supplement included the following:

Comment: Manufactures in Britain and exports to 54 countries, including China and America
THIS Redditch-headquartered company makes windscreen wipers for trains and ships, such as the cruise liner QE2 and her latest sister ship, Queen Victoria. In 2008 B Hepworth fitted wipers to Delhi’s new fleet of 40 Metro trains, a bespoke order that required the British company’s specialised manufacturing skills. Export growth has been driven by the acquisition of its main British competitor in 2004, which enabled it to rationalise its product range and consolidate overseas distributors, thus simplifying its route to market. Overseas sales have grown 96% a year, from £2.6m in 2007 to £10m in 2009.

Chief Executive features in WebTV interview!
Jonathan Eddy, Chief Executive of B Hepworth and Co Ltd was recently interviewed together with Roy Harris, HSBC's Regional Commercial Director for the Midlands, by journalist Jackie Kabler. The theme of the interview was "Expanding business through overseas trade and offering advice on how small and medium sized businesses can best operate in markets outside the UK" and the question she posed was: "With tough trading conditions, just how realistic is it for British based exporting businesses to grow?"

Hepworth features in Birmingham Post International Trade Business Supplement
HSBC bank in association with The Birmingham Post have produced an 8 page feature supplement: "International Trade - Trading our way out of the recession". Amongst contributors are B Hepworth, with an article on page two entitled "Benefits of international trade clear to see".
In the supplement, HSBC Regional Commercial Director, Midlands, Roy Harris, reveals why international trade will make businesses in the West Midlands more competitive, more productive and better equipped to deal with economic challenges.
"....as the economy begins to settle, local businesses are preparing for the upturn and are fighting back. With a continued demand from overseas markets for innovative UK products and services, for which the West Midlands in particular is renowned, there is a wealth of opportunities for local companies to thrive and grow in the present economic environment.
Jonathan Eddy of B Hepworth & Co Ltd reveals: "The true catalyst for the company’s current success levels was its investment in international trade in the late 1980s, at a point when the business had reached its peak in the UK. Since then, the business has grown exponentially, with 70 per cent of revenue now generated through its international trade network. The year-on-year increase of international orders from 54 countries, including China and the US, means that the company had to relocate to a larger factory in 2008 generating an additional 25 jobs in Redditch.
“Cracking the overseas market does take time and effort but while challenging, it can be hugely worthwhile. For us, researching the most appropriate markets and seeking the advice of experts with valuable international knowledge was a must - a great tip for any budding business looking to grow into the international market. Having said that, better transport links and, of course, the internet have now made it much simpler to trade internationally for the right type of business and products. These developments have assisted us in spreading our operations across many countries which has inevitably helped the business through the economic downturn.”

Hepworth achieves successful IRIS re-audit.
We have successfully been re-audited for our IRIS Quality Certification, with an increase in the score from an already excellent 92% to an even better 94%.
Extract from the report:
"There was evidence that the management system complies with IRIS v01, and certification is recommended.
Although the company achieved a high score on IRIS v00, they have continued to implement improvements to the system, and have increased their score."
This is a fantastic achievement and I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone involved for their hard work and dedication.

Hepworth wins 2008 The Birmingham Post Business Award
B Hepworth & Co is the proud winner of this year's The Birmingham Post Business Award.
Jonathan Eddy, the chief executive who describes himself as a "die hard manufacturer", received the prestigious award from the Duke of Gloucester at the Hyatt Hotel in Birmingham.
Mr Eddy paid tribute to his workforce, saying that without their efforts the award would not have been possible. "It is an honour to receive this award. We are not a company that likes to shout about our success - we just get on with things."
In many ways the company, employing 65 people, is a typical Midland manufacturing success story, supplying high quality components to some of the world's most demanding companies and adding value to the local economy.

Hepworth moves on up!
B Hepworth & Co relocated to new, larger premises on 14th March 2008. Still based in Redditch, the move began with the offices and administrative staff, followed by the Assembly Departments on 17th March. The specialist machinery and heavy plant will complete their move by the end April.

The new premises give a much better working environment for all the staff, from the large, airier offices to the huge open plan warehouse, housing all the production facilities from welding and powder coating, to inspection and despatch. Lines of communication between all departments are better and the move will ensure increased productivity and the more efficient streamlining of orders from receipt to delivery.

A new Robot Welder was installed and welding bays were built on 24th March. Trained personnel who do not necessarily need to be experienced classified welders can operate the new machine. The Welder doubles productivity, accuracy is increased and a consistent quality of weld is maintained, which is capable of meeting both national and international welding standards, dependant upon customer requirements.

A Powder Coating Facility is being installed in May, becoming operational in early June. Again, this increases work capacity both in volume and size, shortening delivery times and further improving the quality of the coating applied.
The potential capacity of the laser cutter has doubled due to the larger premises giving this particular area of operation more space. This enables larger plates to be loaded, allowing for longer uninterrupted running times.
Hepworth has seen a continually growing demand for its products and a steady increase in its volume of business. The original premises had become a significant bottleneck, with the unfortunate result that lead times were being unavoidably extended. There is never a good time to move a manufacturing facility and, in the very short term, this has not helped the existing delays. However over the next few months, with the new layout, larger working areas and improved processes and product flows, we expect there to be a big increase in output levels to match the increased order book. We will also have the facility to increase capacity further as we continue to win more business in the market place, especially from our competitors!
The new address is:
4 Merse Road, North Moons Moat, Redditch, Worcestershire, B98 9HL.
Telephone and fax numbers will remain unchanged.
1st LRQA approved UK company to achieve the coveted IRIS accreditation!
Hepworth Rail International, based in the West Midlands, became the first LRQA approved UK company to achieve the coveted International Railway Industry Standard (IRIS) accreditation. IRIS has been modelled on similar quality standards that are already in place in the aerospace and automotive industries, and complements the internationally recognised ISO 9001 quality standard.
The
West Midlands based company is now in the enviable position of being a
first tier supplier to the industry’s main players, such as Bombardier,
Siemens and Alstom.
Mr Jonathan Eddy, CEO, proudly commented “the successful implementation of IRIS has created a win-win situation for both Hepworth Rail and our customers. It supports our commitment to provide an ever more proactive supply chain process, which achieves continuous improvements in our Quality, Customer Service and Project Management Systems, in line with both Hepworth’s and our customer’s demanding procurement strategies.”

Hepworth and Wynn - 3 years on
Following B Hepworth & Co Ltd’s acquisition of Wynn, a settling down period followed by change and reorganisation was inevitable, in the interest of both companies futures.
The strongest positives that have benefited both companies have been centred on the strong product brands, reputation, and the worldwide network of Distributors and Agents, who now have access to both Hepworth and Wynn Wiper Systems and Controls.
Streamlining of products and production
A major rationalisation of the competing products was undertaken: Wynn
Straightline took precedence over the Hepworth Seawiper and,
conversely, the Hepworth Pantograph range took precedence over the Wynn
copied version.
The recent introduction of the now completed 6000 Wiper Control System will give major benefits for the group but, more importantly, to the installation engineers of our systems, with greater flexibility in operation and on site programming, as well as very simple exchange of modules, making both refit and servicing very simple.
Further rationalisations are currently being incorporated. This includes the production of the Wynn 1801 Externally Mounted Pantograph and the range of pantograph wiper arms that are now to be made by Hepworth, but with ongoing support to customers whom Wynn have supplied for the last 10 years.
Major changes have been introduced to the Wynn Straightline range, all of which will significantly improve the production time. This has been achieved by investing in new casting and extrusion tools from UK suppliers (not from the Far East!), so that the C and D models now share common parts.
Centralisation
Changes in the working practices through assembly cells, changes in
personnel and the installation of the Hepworth Computer Production
Control system in December 2006 now gives us a high degree of
visibility in the whole production process.
In September 2006 Wynn was completely transferred onto the Hepworth computer systems, an investment of £80,000, so that there is now full access to the 2 companies from either site and also from any part of the world, through remote internet facilities.
In January 2007 we centralised the Sales Departments to Hepworth enabling us to focus on a common sales policy and further improve response times for quotations and sales acknowledgements.
Looking ahead
The introduction of the IRIS Quality Control system, initially being
driven by our Rail customers, is a major step forward from the existing
Quality Standards already held. We expect to achieve this by September
2007 and we may well be the first UK manufacture in Rail market supply
to do so. Obviously this will also bring significant benefits for our
Marine and Commercial customers.
New plant investment is currently being considered for Hepworth, ranging from automatic stacking machinery for the laser plant, a cad operated bending machine and another cad miller.
Key goals for the next 12 months are:
- Improving on both delivery and customer response times
- Ensuring that all orders are fulfilled correctly first time around
- Tightening up management of our supply chains, resolving poor supplier performance
- Putting steps in place to iron out the few installation issues we are still experiencing.
Our Year End to March 2007 has produced very satisfactory results and the current year looks promising. The very difficult issues that we faced in the first couple of years have been overcome, thanks to our very committed and professional management team who have successfully delivered good results and, as a company we are looking forward to the next stage of our development.
Hepworth / Wynn 6000 Series Controllers
The 6000 Series of Wiper Controllers was introduced in 2004, however as part of Hepworth’s continual R&D policy, further enhancements and improvements have made, together with additional features which now include:
• Different types of wipers with variations in voltage controlled by one system
• Modules have more outputs for greater operational flexibility
• Synchronisation of low voltage wipers (pantograph / pendulum) in low and high speed
• More than one keypanel can be integrated into any operational system.
Hepworth carried out testing with the systems supplied two years ago to the following countries:
• Denmark: 29 wipers controlled by one system with heat, wash, and purge.
• Norway:
Two straight line wipers 230v AC 3 phase, four 50Nm wipers 24v DC with
heat, wash and purge. Controlled by one master and one slave keypad and
two remote control switches.
• UK: Two systems with 50Nm wipers including wash, purge and synchronisation in low and high speed.
Hepworth would like to thank Servi Motion, Norway and Gertsen & Olufsen, Denmark for their support, ensuring that the 6000 Series meets the requirements and high standards needed by today’s shipping.
Hepworth Introduce High Voltage Wiper Systems
Hepworth Marine International has introduced a new high voltage Pantograph wiper system.
Specifically designed for 110v / 220v operation, the 70Nm and 100Nm window wiper systems are suitable for both the super Yacht and the Heavy Shipping markets.
A direct replacement for the Wynn Sea Serpent (1762), it can be supplied as a variable arc system and is a valuable addition to the Hepworth Pantograph range of wiper systems.
